Medical Records Administrator
The Medical Records Administrator is responsible for the management of the daily operations of the Disclosure Management Team or of the Document Processing Team of the Health Information Management (HIM) Department; coordinates and manages the Health Information Management Department efforts to maintain the accuracy, availability, regulatory compliance and privacy of the patient medical record; assures that the data, whether paper or electronic, meets medical, legal, and ethical standards. They ensure that processes and procedures are in place so that patient information is available when needed and in the appropriate format for authorized users or recipients. Review subpoenas and requests for release of information to attorneys and insurance companies. Assist in the coordination of requests by patients or outside reviewers who wish to receive copies of or review medical records; Management of the flow of incoming paper medical records to be prepped, scanned and QC'd into the electronic health record; Foster a culture of accountability, alignment, acceptance and learning.
The applicant must have a Certification registered with the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), American Association of Professional Coders (AAPC), or National Cancer Registrars Association (NCRA), including but not limited to RHIT, RHIA, CPC, CPMA, CPCO, CPPM or CTR. The applicant must have a Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Technology or a related field and the equivalent of two years of full-time medical record experience, including one year experience in a supervisory, administrative, consultative, managerial or executive capacity; or an Associate’s degree in Health Information Management or a related field and the equivalent of four years of full-time medical records experience, including one year experience in a supervisory, administrative, consultative, managerial or executive capacity. The preferred candidate will have their AHIMA certification, five years of HIM experience, and two years of HIM management experience. They will also have one year of HIM Release of Information Experience and one year of HIM document processing experience. they will have the ability to work well on a team, engaging in open and meaningful communication, will display a positive attitude to the team and customer, will have strong leadership skills, and will have the ability to collaborate on projects and tasks.
