Description of Duties:
The Media Relations Specialist generates a positive, global brand image for Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center by cultivating relationships with media outlets, reporters, bloggers and other content creators across traditional media and the digital media space. The Media Relations Specialist spearheads proactive digital media outreach through the strategic use of social media and digital storytelling, influencing press coverage - both traditional and digital - for the organization. They tell the story of Roswell Park’s products, services, science and innovation in a shareable, interactive, trackable way using brand journalism and maintain and optimize Roswell Park’s online newsroom as an engaging, interactive resource for all journalists and content creators.
Applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing or a related field and the equivalent of five years of full-time media relations experience. The preferred candidate will exhibit a strong bias for developing strategic, proactive media communications plans with clear results in a mixture of venues, will be reults-driven and demonstrate a strong news sense, with a particular eye for impactful digital storytelling, and will have the ability to package ideas in attention-garnering, shareable stories that have the propensity to go viral. They will also possess advanced knowledge of social media including blogs, podcasts, and other online news sources, and search engine optimization, will have the ability to write scripts for movies, slide shows and videos, and the ability to create multi-media content independently, including images, video and audio. They will possess existing, and demonstrate the ability to develop media relationships and have understanding of media tracking and distributing services and digital analytics.
