Description of Duties:
The Health Education Specialist assists in recruiting healthcare systems to promote PHS Guidelines in addressing tobacco dependence within Erie, Niagara, Genesee, Orleans, Allegany, Cattaragus, and Wyoming counties. They also assist in promoting cessation media campaigns, and ensure sustainability efforts are current. The Health Education Specialist will service calls from health professionals, educators and others using a wide variety of mechanisms and resources and will locate appropriate resources in response to inquiries. They perform independent field work in the Western New York community to include program support for the Delivery System Reform Incentive Payment Program (DSRIP), follows defined action plans to achieve assigned objectives from Center's annual work plan, and completes visits to healthcare organizations and mental healthcare facilities as assigned in catchment areas.
Applicants must have a Master’s degree in public health, health education or a related field and the equivalent of one year of full-time experience in a community education related field; or a Bachelor’s degree in public health, health education or a related field and the equivalent of three years of full-time experience in a community education related field. The preferred candidate will have a minimum of two years experience in community outreach programs, excellent verbal and written communication skills, will have experience with Microsoft Office Suite, will have proven communication and marketing skills, and will own transportation to complete assigned tasks, as they are expected to travel. They will also be a non-smoker, will possess customer service or human services background, basic familiarity with health education, will have computer experience, good time and attendance, and some flexibility with work scheduling.
This is a grant-funded position. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables is required.
