Description of Duties:
The Facilities Systems Engineer I typically reports to the Facilities Energy Manager in a campus utilities controls capacity. As a controls engineer the FSE will work directly with the duty engineer on shift to maintain the operation of the main power plant and central chilled water plant during assigned shift; ensures the safe operation of all systems. The FSE will respond to routine trouble calls with the duty engineer on shifts for the entire campus. The incumbent will work other more experienced staff until he/she achieves a level of training, education, and certification required to advance to the next level, where he/she will stand the watch alone. The incumbent must demonstrate satisfactory progress towards training goals at all times, and must achieve the required level of training to be advanced within 2 years. Failure to advance will result in termination. Develops an understanding of the repair and routine maintenance of all equipment in the power plant. Develops the ability to provide technical advice and expertise as required.
Applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Engineering Sciences or related field; or an Associate’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Engineering Sciences or related field and the equivalent of two years of full-time experience in Facilities Systems; or a High School Diploma or High School Equivalency Diploma, five years of military training or its equivalent in boiler (steam), chiller (chilled water) or HVAC systems, and the equivalent of five years of full-time experience in a power plant or similar setting as a boiler operator. As a condition of employment, incumbents must achieve the following within two years of appointment: Facilities Systems Engineer II training criteria competency; and Obtain an ATMT Boiler Operations certificate or first class boiler operator license; and Obtain NFPA 70E arc flash training certificate. The preferred candidate will have an Associate's degree or a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, engineering Technology, or Engineering Sciences.
