Description of Duties

Performs more complex administrative, clerical, and general office duties of a highly confidential nature for one or more faculty members of Thoracic Surgery Department. Uses Outlook extensively to manage calendars/commitments of faculty member(s). Transcribes, types, maintains records and files, distributes mail; performs telephone reception; welcomes and directs on-site visitors; duplicates and distributes photocopies; routes faxes; revises work assignments at various subordinate levels to enhance administrative support efforts and meet department objectives. Is an active & contributing member of the administrative team for all Thoracic Surgery department activities.


The applicant must have an Associate’s degree and the equivalent of two years of full-time secretarial or related experience; or a High School Diploma or High School Equivalency Diploma and the equivalent of three years of full-time secretarial or related experience. The preferred candidate will have at least one year of administrative support to faculty and/or other similar professional (as opposed to clinical support experience), at least one year of experience using Outlook to manage a calendar for a faculty member and/or other similar professional, and at least one year experience using - and comfort with - the following programs: Microsoft Word, Excel & Outlook. They will also have at least one year experience working with documents saved on a shared network server, to include saving, accessing, organizing & retrieving such files and at least one year experience in a environment where customer service skills are necessary to engage in positive encounters with patients or customers. They will demonstrate positivity and willingness to tackle complex problems with tact and discretion, and can operate in an environment where exact/entire process is not always clearly defined, will have excellent verbal & written communication skills, proven integrity and discretion and appropriate office etiquette and ability to establish/build/maintain positive relationships with all team members, as well as other important partners at Roswell and within the local community.
