The Data Manager I provides clinical data services for a data network operation, fulfilling requests in a timely manner, acts as a certified honest broker, and abstracts data from the medical record or other institutional sources and accurately enters into a data collection system. The Data Manager I also provides documentation related to the use of the data collection systems used including any new procedures for collection of data, meets with investigators to determine their data requirement, and aids upper-level data management staff as necessary. They abstract patient data from the medical record or other institutional sources and enters into appropriate data collection tool, engage in self-study for all different cancer types by attending educational lectures or using institutional resources to learn about the disease, keep data organized on shared servers or other appropriate filing location, and work with data from disparate sources to fulfill data requests. The Data Manager I organizes and stores all appropriate documentation regarding the data request, de-identifies data following HIPAA regulations, keeps de-identification keys in the appropriate location and with appropriate security, monitors data for completeness and accuracy, and helps in defining queries necessary for monitoring of data accuracy and completeness. They also run queries and reports to identify discrepant/inaccurate data entry, identify reasons for inaccuracy and sends queries to appropriate personnel to correct and complete the data, create documentation of database definitions and develops related data dictionary, create guidelines for internal and external user reference, and define new reports for external and internal use. The Data Manager I works with Information Technology staff to define, test and implement requested reports, maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance programs, safety and compliance standards, enhances professional growth and development by participating in educational programs, reading current literature and participating in in-service meetings and workshops, prepares other written documentation as required by the profession and the department, maintains, distributes, analyzes and projects information for required records, reports and statistics as directed, attends meetings as required, and performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
Applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree and the equivalent of one year of full-time experience in a clinical trials and/or research environment; or an Associate’s degree and the equivalent of three years of full-time experience in a clinical trials and/or research environment. The preferred candidate will be familiar with the use of computer software, have the ability to learn software systems, will understand database functionality, and will have familiarity with Microsoft Access, the ability to think critically, prioritize, multi-task and organize, and the ability to lead, problem solve and operationalize concepts and processes. They will have the ability to write working documents for users, will be very detail oriented, will have the ability to function independently with minimal supervision, and will have knowledge of hematological malignancies, in particular multiple myeloma. The preferred candidate will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, knowledge of the Roswell Park electronic medical record, and the ability to establish and maintain interpersonal relationships in a manner which enhances communications.
This is a grant-funded position. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables is required.
