Description of Duties:
The Corporate Coding Specialist abstracts data directly from the Electronic Medical Record and assigns appropriate Evaluation and Management and/or CPT4 codes along with ICD-10-CM codes to ensure optimal billing. E&M codes are assigned in accordance with nationally mandated guidelines. The Corporate Coding Specialist also abstracts data directly from the Electronic Medical Record and assigns appropriate ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes for Inpatient Hospital discharges and reviews coding with CDI team to ensure appropriate DRG, SOI and ROM,. Coding of diagnoses is performed in accordance with ICD-10 coding guidelines. Coding of procedures is performed in accordance to ICD-10 procedure guidelines for hospital reimbursement and CPT-4 coding for hospital and professional reimbursement. They also review all medical record data to ensure compliance standards are maintained prior to coding/billing of charges. This includes Physicians at Teaching Hospital (PATH) standards, CMS documentation guidelines, OIG standards, and medical necessity standards and global billing policies.
Applicants must have an Associate’s degree in Health Information Management and certification as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT); or an Associate’s degree and certification as a Certified Professional Coder (CPC); or Currently enrolled in an accredited Health Information Management program with at least 45 credit hours towards an Associate’s degree and the equivalent of six months of related experience*; or a High School diploma or G.E.D. and the equivalent of two years of full-time related experience and certification as a Certified Professional Coder (CPC). The preferred candidate will have experience with ICD-10 coding, CPT4 coding, inpatient hospital facility coding, and Evaluation and Management (E&M) coding. They will also have experience with Electronic Medical Record and will have the ability to work as a team player.
