Description of Duties:
The Clinical Laboratory Assistant processes requests and receives clinical laboratory/clinical research/research testing material within the department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. Accessions, processes, and routes clinical laboratory testing material to appropriate clinical testing area; transcribes, prints, sorts, mails, and faxes laboratory reports; handles requests for laboratory reports, specimen tracking, and laboratory requests via phone, email, mail, and other correspondence methods; assists with the performance of laboratory quality control, equipment maintenance, and quality assurance activities; maintains laboratory supply inventories and processes requests for supply orders. Routine duties will include cleaning and maintenance of laboratory equipment; sorting, distributing and filing pathology material; preparing stock solutions; loading and unloading automated stainers; specimen delivery and pick up; recycling various solutions; inventory and stock supplies and disposal of specimens.
Applicants must have an Associate’s degree in a Healthcare discipline; or Associate’s degree and the equivalent of one year of full-time experience in a clinical or research setting requiring the use of medical/laboratory terminology; or High School diploma or G.E.D. and current enrollment in an approved BS program in Clinical Laboratory Technology; or High School diploma or G.E.D. and the equivalent of two years of full time experience in a clinical or research setting requiring the use of medical/laboratory terminology. The preferred candidate must have the ability to work with a diverse population.
