Description of Duties:
The Associate Dean is the Chief Academic Officer's deputy in managing educational programs at the Roswell Park Cancer Institute. The Associate Dean's primary responsibility is the operation of the Roswell Park Graduate Division (RPGD), an affiliate of the University at Buffalo (UB) with a PhD and an MS program in Cancer Sciences. The Associate Dean ensures compliance of students, faculty, and programs with internal and UB academic regulations and processes, and serves as liaison with UB on graduate education matters. The Associate Dean implements and assesses marketing and recruiting efforts, and coordinates with chairs, program directors, and faculty in each academic track on admissions, curriculum, program development, grantsmanship, and mentor development. The Associate Dean plans and delivers co-curricular programming on career development, assesses and reports on program effectiveness, and oversees and coordinates student affairs.
Applicants must have a Doctoral or MD degree in the biomedical sciences and the equivalent of two (2) years of full-time post-doctoral training. The preferred candidate will have a PhD or MD degree in the biomedical sciences; two years of post-doctoral training, preferably related to cancer biology; experience in the development, administration, and assessment of educational programs, preferably in graduate biomedical education; record of published scholarly work or successful grantsmanship in support of academic or research programs; and experience serving as a thesis mentor for graduate students. Strong interpersonal, collaboration, and project management skills required. Must be highly organized in record keeping and in meeting and enforcing deadlines. Must routinely produce clear, accurate written communications and public presentations. Must possess a supportive student-centered mindset. Must be skilled in difficult conversations.
