The Flu Is Hitting Hard. Here's How to Protect Yourself and Others.

There has been an increase in reported cases of the influenza (flu) virus across the country, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) advises that this trend is “likely to continue for several more weeks.” Please take the precautions below to help keep the flu from spreading among our patients, staff and visitors.

Tell Roswell Park staff immediately if you or someone with you has two or more of the following flu symptoms:

  • Runny nose
  • Sore throat
  • Cough
  • Muscle aches and fever

Cover your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze.

  • Use a tissue, or cough into your sleeve.
  • Throw your used tissue into a wastebasket.

Clean your hands.

  • Clean your hands often to help prevent the spread of germs.
  • Wash your hands with soap and warm water (scrub for at least 20 seconds) or use alcohol-based gel and rub it all over your hands and fingers until they’re dry.

Ask for a mask to keep other people safe from your germs. If you are coughing or sneezing, you may be asked to wear a mask.

Get your flu shot if you haven’t had it already.

Remember: Our patients are at higher risk for infection. Please do not visit the hospital if you are sick.
