"Research is useless if it just sits in a book somewhere. It needs to leave the bookshelf and get into the community."
Cancer disparities exist in minority communities across the country, including in Native American populations. One of Roswell Park’s newest faculty members, Rodney Haring, PhD, MSW, has devoted much of his adult life to understanding Native American health research.
Dr. Haring is now working toward creating and pilot testing an intervention for the prevention of obesity, specifically in the Native American workforce. In the above video, he also shares a bit about his active role within the Native American community, his accomplishments at the federal level, and the vital importance of research in the fight against cancer.
