The Importance of Nutrition Before, During and After Cancer Treatment

March is National Nutrition Month. We all know our eating habits have a definitive impact on our overall health. For cancer patients, nutrition is especially important as it plays an essential role in the healing and recovery process.

As part of a team of Registered Dietitians at Roswell Park, I work with patients to help them maintain optimal nutrition before, during and after cancer treatment. Our team is available to patients in both the inpatient and outpatient setting.

Outpatient Services

Nutritional consults are available to all outpatients receiving treatment in any of our clinics. A nutritional consult can help resolve any issues you may have tolerating your food during therapy. Our team also works with patients who have completed their treatment to help them maintain healthy eating habits and overall good nutrition throughout their lives.

Inpatient Services

Patients admitted to Roswell Park are assessed by one of our clinical dietitians to determine any special nutritional needs. We work with patients throughout their stay at Roswell Park to control any difficulty with eating and to provide them with foods and beverages that they tolerate easily during their treatment.

New Room Service Program

This month we introduced a new concept of meal service that is modeled after hotel-style room service.  The program allows our patients to order made-to-order selections from a menu of wide-ranging food offerings during our room service delivery hours.
