RPCI’s Multidisciplinary Approach
At Roswell Park, we use an extraordinary kind of teamwork that we call our multidisciplinary care approach. This was a novel concept when our founder Dr. Roswell Park pioneered it in 1898. He placed the patient at the center of a diverse team of specialists devoted to sharing their expertise in order to help people with cancer. The new approach got notable results: cancer patients began to live longer.
Since then, we’ve expanded our understanding of cancer beyond anything Dr. Park could have imagined. And we’ve kept pace by constantly refining our multidisciplinary care.
Today, we’re the only multidisciplinary group in Western New York specifically trained and equipped to treat patients with spine tumors and disorders. Our team calls on the best combination of experts from pathology, radiology, neurosurgery, radiation oncology, and medical neuro-oncology — as well as research scientists, nurses, rehabilitation therapists, psychologists, social workers, pain management and nutrition experts — that your unique case requires. In turn, they collaborate with your primary care physician to tailor your treatment plan and ensure continuity of care from diagnosis through recovery.
It’s about more than convenience; it’s about better care. Studies show an integrated team approach results in better treatment planning, increased likelihood of accurate management and care, a more comprehensive treatment plan, and better outcomes.
One-Day Clinic Means One-stop Care
Spinal tumors or any tumor of the central nervous system typically require multi-faceted treatment from different areas of cancer medicine. We have specialists, neuro-oncologists, surgeons and medical and radiation oncologists here under one roof. What’s more, thanks to our One-Day Clinic, you can see them all in one day.
This personal approach offers a valuable opportunity for time with your clinical team and your physicians are able to learn more about you, your needs and your preferences.
Quality of Life at RPCI
Quality health care means more than just medical tests and successful treatments. The goal is to live longer, but also to have the highest possible quality of life, so you can continue to enjoy the things you love most. That’s why we will consider your unique physical, psychological and practical needs when developing your treatment plan.
Living with Cancer
We believe survivorship begins at diagnosis and lasts a lifetime, with uninterrupted access to specialized cancer care and support. We want to ensure that all your present and long-term needs — physical, psychosocial, nutritional, spiritual, legal — related to cancer survivorship are met; that any early warning signs of recurrence are detected and treated immediately; and that routine preventive and follow-up care is always available to enhance your health, well-being and peace of mind.
