Skin Cancer (Non-Melanoma)

Skin cancer is very common but if detected early, nearly 100 percent of cases may be cured. Roswell Park’s skin cancer team offers several highly effective therapies and will work with you to create a personalized treatment plan that meets both your needs and preferences.

Valerie Francescutti, MD, FRCSC

Every RPCI dermatologist and medical, surgical or radiation oncologist on the skin cancer team has extensive subspecialty experience in diagnosing and treating skin cancers. Our plastic and reconstructive surgeons specialize in the unique treatments and needs of skin cancer patients.

The Photodynamic Therapy Center at RPCI is a worldwide leader in Photodynamic Therapy (PDT), a non-surgical treatment pioneered at Roswell Park that uses a light sensitive-drug that causes cancer cells to die when activated by specific wavelengths of light.
RPCI offers highly specialized and innovative treatments for skin cancer including Mohs Micrographic Surgery performed by specifically trained and certified surgeons that remove individual layers of the affected skin until all the cancer is gone.

Pioneering Clinical Trials

Roswell Park strives to find better ways to treat skin cancer through clinical trials, many of which have been pioneered and launched by our own translational research team.
