At Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center and the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at the University at Buffalo, the skilled pediatric hematologists and oncologists who provide a high level of care to our patients are also at the forefront of scientific research. Each month, we have a center-wide research meeting to promote specific research that could be valuable to any of our pediatric patients.
The depth of the research and education component of Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center is the main reason we can provide such a high level of care to our patients. We’re leaders in cancer research and experimental therapeutics, which is passed along directly to our patients through joint treatment plans and access to cutting-edge research, technology and clinical trials.

Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center pioneered the multidisciplinary way of treating cancer patients. This is the gold standard by which all modern-day, full-service cancer centers are measured. This approach combines and coordinates many specialized areas of medicine.
Our founder, Dr. Roswell Park, made this approach part of his daily practice in 1898. His approach: place the patient at the center of a diverse, skilled team of specialists. Each specialist had a deep understanding of an essential medical discipline and shared that expertise with each other to help cancer patients live longer. As Roswell Park, we continue to expand our knowledge of cancer and challenge ourselves to constantly refine the way we share our specialties.
Cancer research has always been a core part of Roswell Park’s mission. Our groundbreaking researchers have led major advances in cancer diagnosis and treatment, as well as a greater understanding of the nature of cancer.
Roswell Park also has a number of scientists and doctors who are involved in global research initiatives. Those initiatives include learning about using traditional healing practices among families of children with cancer in low and middle-income nations like Central and South America.
Pediatric Hematology-Oncology Fellowship
Our pediatric hematology/oncology fellowship is a joint program with Oishei Children’s Hospital, Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at the University at Buffalo and Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center. The postdoctoral education requirement is three years of general pediatric residency training. The pediatric hematology/oncology fellowship is a three-year training program and is accredited by the Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education. Shared Science Resources at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center
Roswell Park currently supports 20 scientific shared resources. These resources let our investigators access a broad range of advanced scientific instruments, cutting-edge technical and analytical applications, sample biological materials repositories (biorepositories) and more.
Our shared resources play a very valuable role in helping us perform basic, clinical and translational scientific research at Roswell Park. These resources help speed the progress of our researchers and allow them to successfully compete for peer-reviewed grant funding in a scientific funding environment that is becoming more and more competitive.
