Better Outcomes Through Multidisciplinary Care

Whether you are seeking treatment as an inpatient or outpatient, you will be surrounded by a highly experienced network of compassionate experts focused exclusively on the treatment of lymphoma. Our team delivers multidisciplinary care that provides our patients with superior clinical results.

The idea of ''multidisciplinary'' cancer care (combining and coordinating many specialized areas of medicine) was pioneered by our founder, Dr. Roswell Park, in 1898. He placed the patient at the center of a diverse team of specialists, each with a keen understanding of a specific medical discipline, who shared their insights and observations. The new approach brought remarkable results: cancer patients began to live longer.

Today, the multidisciplinary Lymphoma Team at Roswell Park has evolved to include specialists involved in all facets of care, from diagnosis through long-term follow-up care. Although more research is needed, some studies suggest that cancer patients have better outcomes when they are treated at National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers such as Roswell Park — and multidisciplinary cancer care is key to those results.

Meeting of the Minds

The Lymphoma Team holds weekly meetings with members of the Blood or Marrow Transplant (BMT) team and research scientists, to review the cases of all patients who might be candidates for BMT or enrollment on new clinical research studies. Every case is reviewed from many perspectives to achieve the best possible treatment outcome.

Quality of Life

Quality healthcare is more than medical tests and successful treatments. Providing all our patients with the highest quality of life is important to every member of the Roswell Park Lymphoma Team. Recognizing this, we practice a patient-centered model of care that is respectful, safe and compassionate, and addresses your unique physical, psychological and practical needs.

Compassionate, Competent Caregiving

Roswell Park nurses are among the best in the nation, earning Magnet® Recognition for nursing excellence, a top national honor bestowed by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). This is a distinction held by just 6 percent of the hospitals in the United States, with Roswell Park being the only one in Western New York to earn Magnet status. In Magnet hospitals, patient outcomes are better and length of stay is shorter.

Living with Cancer

At Roswell Park, we believe that survivorship begins at diagnosis and lasts a lifetime, with uninterrupted access to specialized cancer care and support. We want to ensure that any early warning signs of recurrence are detected and treated immediately; that all your present and long-term needs — physical, psychosocial, nutritional, spiritual, legal — related to living with cancer are met; and that routine preventive and follow-up care is always available to enhance your health, well-being and peace of mind.
