The Roswell Difference

People are what set us apart.

The most advanced treatments

Roswell Park was one of the first institutions in the nation to be recognized by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) as a comprehensive cancer center. That means we provide expert cancer care and conduct top-tier research aimed at finding ways to prevent and cure cancer, with NCI support. Three major studies have found that long-term survival rose from 6% to 20% overall, as well as within specific cancer types, for patients who were treated from the start at NCI-designated comprehensive cancer centers, compared with those treated elsewhere.

“My Roswell doctor also told me that the type of cancer cell they found was aggressive. I felt her care and compassion and I knew that this was the doctor who was going to save my life.”

Comprehensive services

We provide a full menu of services — all in one location — for diagnosing and treating cancer and helping survivors live healthy lives after treatment has ended. Programs include rehabilitation therapy, lymphedema care, dental care and maxillofacial prosthetics, palliative care, pain management, psychological support, clinical genetics counseling, nutrition assistance and many others. Patients may also take advantage of such complementary therapies as massage, acupuncture, reiki and aromatherapy.

Cancer is our only focus

Founded in 1898, Roswell Park was the first center in the world to focus exclusively on cancer. Our patients receive cancer care in disease-site specific clinical centers at our state-of-the-art facilities. Our multidisciplinary teams of experts — board-certified surgical, medical and radiation oncologists —collaborate to ensure each patient’s treatment evaluates all options, follows evidence-based best practices, is optimally coordinated, and delivered with compassion and respect.

Among the elite

As members of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN), we’re also one of 30 elite cancer centers that continually review the latest medical literature to advance the standard of cancer care. Our physicians serve on several NCCN panels that identify the best practices for clinical care and write the treatment guidelines used throughout the world.

Leading in immunotherapy

Our Division of Translational Immunology is a national leader in developing new treatments to help a patient’s immune system fight cancer. We offer cancer vaccines, adoptive T-cell transfer, oncolytic viral therapy, checkpoint blockades, monoclonal antibodies, cytokines and combination therapies. We engineered the world’s first two-gene combination for adoptive T-cell therapy, created the brain cancer vaccine SurVaxM and the NYESO-1 vaccine for late-stage ovarian cancer and many other types of solid tumors. We’re the only center in the U.S. offering a clinical trial of the Cuban CIMAvax lung cancer vaccine. Members of our Immunotherapy team are highly skilled in identifying and managing the side effects of immunotherapies.

Treatment the Roswell Park way

Cancer affects people in different ways. Often the diagnosis itself causes emotional distress. Treatment may cause side effects. Some people may need assistance with financial or legal matters related to their diagnosis. That’s why Roswell Park provides care for the whole person. While our surgical, medical and radiation oncologists treat the disease, our patients can also rely on a team of psychologists, social workers, dietitians and other professionals, who work together to provide a full spectrum of integrated care — all under one roof. We know every patient is unique. That’s why we deliver the highest-quality care, with a treatment plan tailored specifically for you.

“I am forever grateful to my team at Roswell Park. They were there for me and advocated for me when I wasn’t sure what to do.”

Designed to de-stress

Atmosphere makes a difference. A cancer diagnosis can lead to intense stress. We’ve designed beautiful and uplifting spaces to help relieve some of that stress, with a rich collection of artwork, musicians who perform daily in the hospital lobby and a beautiful park for relaxing when the weather’s warm. Our therapy dogs stop by public areas in the hospital and Clinical Sciences Center for a little one-on-one attention. Our artists-in-residence invite patients and visitors to nurture their creativity through painting and other visual arts. It’s all part of how we take care of both body and spirit. The Marie, Maria and Michael Bogner, Sr. Patient Terrace (formerly the MMMB Patient Terrace) is an open-air space for meditation, contemplation and conversation designed to provide a respite for patients, families and staff.
