BUFFALO, NY — Brian C. Springer, MHA, recently joined Roswell Park Cancer Institute (RPCI) as Executive Vice President. A member of RPCI’s senior management team, he will work closely with Donald L. Trump, MD, President and CEO, and Candace S. Johnson, PhD, Deputy Director, in overseeing the development, direction and operation of the Institute.
Springer’s work at RPCI focuses on oversight of administrative, scientific and clinical operations but also encompasses strategic planning, application for renewal of the Institute’s National Cancer Institute core grant and involvement in mission-driven programs such as technology transfer and diversity initiatives.
“What Brian brings to us on paper is impressive, but his energy and creativity make him the ideal candidate for this role,” said Dr. Trump. “He’s got outstanding skills as a facilitator, and he invests himself 100% in the tasks he takes on.”
Springer was most recently Executive Director of the Alvin J. Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, MO. He has also worked at the Comprehensive Cancer Center of Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, NC, first as Director of Clinical Research Management and later as Assistant Director of Finance and Administration.
“Working in administration, you get to bring bright, talented people together to make things happen. I’m passionate about helping drive things to excellence, and I get really excited about progress, about results,” said Springer. “But it’s especially rewarding to get to do this at Roswell Park because of the Institute’s long history and because RPCI is a comprehensive cancer center, and everything stems from that narrow, driving focus.”
He earned a master’s degree in healthcare administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1998, and serves on the Executive Committee of the Cancer Center Administrators’ Forum. A resident of Buffalo Niagara’s Southtowns area, Springer relocated to Western New York with his fiancée, Leah Menshouse.
The mission of Roswell Park Cancer Institute (RPCI) is to understand, prevent and cure cancer. RPCI, founded in 1898, was one of the first cancer centers in the country to be named a National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center and remains the only facility with this designation in Upstate New York. The Institute is a member of the prestigious National Comprehensive Cancer Network, an alliance of the nation’s leading cancer centers; maintains affiliate sites; and is a partner in national and international collaborative programs.
