How Is It Administered?

Milk of Magnesia comes as a tablet or liquid to take by mouth.

What Is It Used For?

Milk of Magnesia is used on a short-term basis to treat constipation.

What Should I Tell My Doctor Before I Begin Taking It?

Tell your doctor:

  • if you are allergic to magnesium hydroxide or any other drugs
  • what prescription and nonprescription medications you are taking, including vitamins
  • if you have or have ever had kidney disease

When To Call Your Doctor

Although side effects from Milk of Magnesia® are not common, they can occur. If you experience any of the following symptoms, call your doctor:

  • stomach cramps
  • upset stomach
  • vomiting
  • diarrhea
