Bladder Cancer Treatments Pathways Guide

The Bladder Cancer Center at Roswell Park Cancer Institute

The bladder cancer team at Roswell provides comprehensive, individualized care to patients with premalignant and malignant bladder disease. Roswell Park Cancer Institute was the first facility in Buffalo and among the first centers in the country to offer state-of-the-art robotic-assisted surgery to patients with bladder cancer.

The Minimally Invasive Surgical Center has performed over 100 robot-assisted radical cystectomy for advanced bladder cancer distinguishing RPCI as one of the world’s premier academic institutions for the procedure. Bladder cancer patients treated robot-assisted surgery report that their quality of life returned to normal within six months, according to a study conducted by Khurshid A. Guru, MD, Director of Robotic Surgery and published in the British Journal of Urology International.

We are committed to providing the newest and most advanced treatments to our patients. We are pleased to make robotic-assisted surgery available to patients with advanced bladder cancer. Khurshid A. Guru, MD, Director of Robotic Surgery

This pioneering technique offers these patients a less invasive treatment option that has several potential advantages over traditional open surgery. Patients may experience less post-operative pain, resume bowel activity sooner, resume day-to-day activity more quickly and stay fewer days in the hospital.
