When you refer a patient to Roswell Park, you can do so with the utmost confidence that you have made the best decision for your patient.
How to Make a Referral
Even with a suspicion of cancer your patient, or your office staff, can call RPCI at 1-800 ROSWELL (1-800-767-9355) and one of our referral professionals will walk them through the referral process, answer questions and set up an appointment with the cancer specialist best suited to discuss his or her care.
If your patient makes the call directly, our referral professionals will contact you for the appropriate authorization, which is required for patients participating in a managed care plan.
After You Make A Referral
New patients may meet with several doctors from different oncology specialties. The medical team then confers to recommend a treatment plan. This multidisciplinary team typically includes a surgical oncologist, a medical oncologist, a radiation oncologist, a radiologist, a pathologist, as well as nurses, occupational and physical therapists, and in some cases, a psychologist.
As a referring physician, our medical team will make every effort to keep you fully informed and up-to-date on treatments, procedures and other relevant information that pertains to your patient. When your patient is returned to your care, you will be current on his or her status and further treatment requirements.
Second Opinion
Roswell Park specialists are available to offer a second opinion to patients. If you would like to speak with one of our specialists, please call the referral office at 1-800-ROSWELL (1-800-767-9355) and leave a message for the desired specialist.
Insurance
Because our physicians are categorized as sub-specialists in most health insurance provider manuals, you may not be aware whether your patient’s health insurance company will authorize treatment at Roswell Park. Our practice plan has contracts in place with major local, regional, and national insurance companies. We will work with you, your patient, and/or the insurance company to acquire the proper authorization.
