Procedures

Do you want to know more about a specific procedure?  Perhaps you’re considering different options or maybe you and your doctor have already decided that a certain procedure would be helpful to you.

A procedure is simply a step-by-step process, so the term can cover wide range of services.  Some people hear the word “procedure” and immediately think of surgery, but there are medical procedures as well.  A procedure may be simple and quick, or it may require hospitalization and a recovery period.

There are a number of procedures your doctor may recommend as part of your treatment or to prepare you for treatment.  Sometimes the purpose is to relieve a symptom you are having or to prevent a problem from occurring. Your cancer type and stage and your age and general health are just a few of the multiple factors your doctor takes into account before recommending you have a particular procedure.

The links in this section provide additional information and instructions about specific procedures.
