Overview:

The objectives of the Department of Psychology encompass all three functions of a comprehensive cancer center, that is, patient care, research and education.

The team offers several opportunities for assistance.  One area is to cope with problems that may be magnified by a cancer diagnosis in a family.  More information about coping with anxiety, fear and depression please is available on the American Cancer Society Web site.

Description of Department Activities:

  • The first objective and priority of the Department of Psychology is to provide the highest quality patient care within the realm of the profession of Psychology.
  • To evaluate patients upon referral and provide appropriate treatment in response to the evaluation.
  • To conduct research related to the psychological aspects of the diagnosis and treatment of cancer.
  • To communicate by adequate and objective documentation of progress within the guidelines set forth by professional and quality evaluation procedures.
  • To develop quality assurance programs monitoring quality care and professional ability.
  • To abide by rules, regulations and codes set forth by institutional, professional and governmental agencies.
  • To provide education for professional and non-professional staff as well as in-service education relating to Psychology and associated subjects.
  • To provide education for professional and non-professional members of the community at large relating to Psychology and associated subjects.
  • To provide clinical and research education for affiliated students of accredited educational institutions.
