Infectious Diseases Summary

The Infectious Diseases division is comprised of two attendings (Drs. Brahm Segal and Nick Almyroudis), a nurse practitioner (Donna Ball), and two Infection Control practitioners (Kim Partridge and Gail Liddell), and an Infection Control administrator (Joyce Yasko).

We provide inpatient and outpatient consultation in Infectious Diseases to all services, formulate policies related to Infectious Diseases and Infection Control in collaboration with our colleagues, and oversee all aspects related to Infection Control. We also have a strong role in establishing guidelines at the national and international levels. Dr. Segal is co-chair of the NCCN guidelines on prevention and treatment of infections in cancer patients and has served as a member of guideline panels established by CDC and the Infectious Diseases Society of America.

Dr. Segal’s research focuses on mechanisms of inflammation that are relevant to host defense against microbes and to diseases of inflammation, such as autoimmunity, acute lung injury, and tumorigenesis. Dr. Almyroudis’s research interests are clinical and relate to pathogenesis and treatment of infections in cancer patients.
