The Lymphoma and Myeloma Program at Roswell Park Cancer Institute is made up of five physicians (Chief: Myron S. Czuczman; Zale P. Bernstein; Francisco J. Hernandez-Ilizaliturri), a group of dedicated nurse practitioners / physician assistants, research nurses, data managers, clinic nurses, and administrative assistants whose primary goal is to provide patients with excellent care.
Our group of physicians are active in cutting-edge clinical and translational research in order to provide new therapies to our patients which we have chosen to evaluate for their potential in providing improved anti-tumor activity (and often less toxicity) than standard treatments. Our group of physicians are represented as active members on committees in such prestigious national organizations such as the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) (i.e. individual Treatment Guide-lines [updated yearly] and long-term monitoring of lymphoma patients participating in the Lymphoma Outcomes Database) and the Cancer and Leukemia Group B (CALGB) national cooperative group. Not only does our group actively participate in CALGB and pharmaceutical company-sponsored clinical trials, but also serve as the principal investigators on numerous local, national, and even international trials which have gained us international recognition as leaders in the innovative therapy of lymphoma (Hodgkin and non-Hodgkin subtypes), multiple myeloma, CLL and related disorders.
Our translational laboratory programs regularly publish their research results in top-notch peer-reviewed journals which are often used in guiding the development of novel clinical studies. Results from our research, both clinical and translational, is often presented at national as well as international scientific meetings. In addition to the excellent care provided to patients by our clinical staff, the expertise and service provided by our colleagues in other departments (i.e. Surgery, Diagnostic Radiology, Radiation Oncology, Flow Cytometry, Pathology, Cytogenetics, Molecular Diagnostics, Clinical Research Services, Nursing, Social Work, Psychology, and Chemotherapy / Infusion Clinic) ensures centralized, timely, and “full” care of lymphoma and myeloma patients treated at our NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center.
