WNY’s largest one-day cycling event brings riders and volunteers to UB’S North Campus in support of Roswell Park Cancer Institute
BUFFALO, NY — More than 7,500 cyclists and 1,500 volunteers and supporters today celebrated The Ride for Roswell 2011 and raised over $3 million for cancer research and patient care programs at Roswell Park Cancer Institute. Riders gathered support through pledges from friends and loved ones and chose from ten cycling routes departing from the University at Buffalo’s Baird Point. Routes ranged from the 3-mile Family Fun Ride to the 100-mile Century Ride, plus a 12-mile Peloton ride for top fundraisers that traveled from Roswell Park’s campus to the main event at UB.
Many riders dedicated their efforts to a loved one affected by cancer, some bearing the names of those they rode in honor of on their team shirts or jerseys. After completing their ride, cyclists and spectators took part in a post-Ride celebration on UB’s campus. The festivities featured live music, a “Celebration Village” to honor those who have been touched by cancer, contests, games and remarks by Dr. Donald Trump, RPCI President and CEO.
“Riders and supporters have once again demonstrated their trademark generosity and dedication to winning the battle against cancer,” Dr. Trump said. “The Ride is such a meaningful outpouring of support for those touched by this disease, and I’m grateful to see so many riders and volunteers involved this year.”
The Ride for Roswell has raised more than $13.7 million for Roswell Park since its inception in 1996. Learn more about The Ride for Roswell at www.RideForRoswell.org or by calling 716-THE-RIDE.
