On Friday, June 22, 2012, Roswell Park cancer patients, survivors and their guests gathered with riders and volunteers in the SurvivorSHIP tent at the first-ever and long-to-be-remembered Ride For Roswell Opening Ceremony.
The tent featured Roswell Park researchers, who were on hand to talk about the latest research that is making a difference for patients today and for years to come. Survivors enjoyed delicious treats, and tested their knowledge and accuracy at several table games—each with a guaranteed prize to serve as a lasting memento of the celebration.
Always a crowd-pleaser, the SurvivorSHIP basket raffle raised $3,200, to be used in support of a celebration for cancer survivors in 2013, as well as the 2012 Tree of Hope event. View the winning raffle ticket numbers.
Opening Ceremony Festivities
Following the pre-party, the Opening Ceremony kicked off with a procession of riders and survivors, followed by the arrival of the Peloton, and inspirational remarks by cancer advocate and former Buffalo Bills linebacker Chris Spielman, all leading up to a live performance by vocalist Rick Springfield, known for his hit-single “Jessie’s Girl.”
Thank You For Your Support
Many thanks to all the survivors, riders, volunteers and guests who made Opening Ceremony the grand celebration that it was, and a very special thank you to all the corporate sponsors who made it all possible.
