Dr. Robert J. Plunkett joined the staff of Roswell Park Cancer Institute (RPCI) in 1997 as an attending neurosurgeon. He earned his medical degree at Indiana University School of Medicine (1978). At Vanderbilt University Hospital, Nashville, TN, he completed a surgical internship (1980) and residency in Neurosurgery (1986). He was a Neurology Registrar at the Institute of Neurological Sciences, Glasgow, Scotland (1981) and served as a Senior Staff Fellow, Surgical Neurology Branch, National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Maryland (1986-1990). In 1999, Dr. Plunkett completed Gamma Knife Training.
Dr. Plunkett is licensed in New York, Maryland, Tennessee and Indiana and is certified by the American Board of Neurosurgery (1989). His research interests focus on the biology of and novel treatments for brain tumors.
Dr. Plunkett is a member of the American Medical Association, Research Society of Neurological Surgeons, American Association for the Advancement of Science, Meacham Neurosurgical Society, Congress of Neurological Surgeons, American Association of Neurological Surgeons, Erie County Medical Society, American Neuromodulation Society, American Pain Society, AANS Joint Section on Tumors, American Society for Neural Transplantation and AANS Joint Section on Pain.
Dr. Plunkett has authored and co-authored more than 100 journal publications, book chapters and abstracts and has presented his research at numerous national and international meetings.
