The Blood and Marrow Transplant (BMT) program is dedicated to providing outstanding clinical care and conducting clinical trials related to novel approaches to BMT. The BMT Program treats selected patients with hematologic disorders including Acute and Chronic Leukemias, Aplastic Anemia, Hodgkin Disease, Multiple Myeloma, Myelodysplastic Syndrome, Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma and selected solid tumors. OverviewThe Roswell Park BMT team, under the direction of Philip McCarthy, MD, offers both autologous (self-donated) and allogeneic (requiring a related or unrelated donor) transplantation of peripheral blood, bone marrow or cord blood. Roswell Park's safe and comfortable BMT unit currently consists of 28 private patient rooms. The RPCI BMT program is certified by the National Marrow Donor Program as a Transplant, Collection and Apheresis Center. Patients who are in need of blood or marrow transplants for a variety of diseases, but who do not have compatible, related donors, no longer have to leave Western New York for treatment. RPCI has access to the nearly four million potential donors in the National Registry, and serves as a regional referral center for harvesting the marrow of donors.
