Radiation Medicine Facilities

The Radiation Medicine team works continuously to refine radiation oncology treatment methods to offer the highest-quality patient care possible. The Radiation Medicine Department at RPCI is the most technologically advanced and comprehensively equipped radiation facility in Western New York. Over $20 million has been spent to upgrade and maintain our advanced treatment facilities.

Roswell Park was founded in 1898 as the nation’s first cancer research, treatment and education center. Over 100 years ago, Roswell Park was using radiation to treat cancers of the cervix, tongue, prostate and skin. In 1914, RPCI purchased its first radium, which garnered national awareness. In fact, Madame Marie Curie, the scientist who discovered radium and who was twice a Nobel Laureate, visited the Institute to learn about the radiation research taking place here in Buffalo.

Today, RPCI houses one of the most advanced collections of radiation equipment, which supports a world-class team of faculty and staff who are dedicated solely to treating cancer.
Our 20,000-square-ft facility includes:

  • 4 Linear Accelerator (Linac) Treatment Vaults
  • 2 Varian Trilogy Stereotactic Systems
  • 2 CT Simulators
  • Gamma Knife Suite
  • Brachytherapy Suite
  • Day Hospital/Recovery Unit
