Description of Duties: 

The Assistant Nurse Administrator adheres to all requirements and professional standards such as ANA, ONS, AORN, AACN, and ASPAN as applicable to the specific area of nursing practice. This incumbent will collaborate with the Nurse Administrator to seek solutions to identified problems concerning staff scheduling, performance and compliance to policies; participates in the identification of staff learning needs and communicates those assessments and recommendations appropriately; collaborates and communicates with other departments about operational issues which affect care delivery; collaborates with the Nurse Administrator to provide staff with information about patient safety standards; evaluates staff competencies and performance in annual performance evaluations; continually evaluates the quality of nursing care provided to the patients in his/her area; maintains clinical knowledge and expertise in oncology and uses established patient care standards when consulting with staff on clinical issues; demonstrates knowledge and ability to procure information resources as necessary; an active participant in team dynamics activities; manages time and resources efficiently to maximize productivity and avoid unnecessary personnel expenditures; collaborates with the Nurse Administrator in determining staffing requirements and takes action to ensure appropriate staffing levels; demonstrates knowledge of Institute and Departmental organizational structure and utilizes appropriate channels of communication; communicates in an appropriate manner with those members of the health team necessary for the care of the patient; implements and communicates current policies, procedures, guidelines and regulations; knowledgeable about HIPPA rules and regulations; complies with these regulations and is able to define own level of access; identifies own strengths and limitations; establishes own goals and develops objectives; sets priorities and target dates for accomplishments; incorporates the results of meaningful nursing research with developing departmental policies and procedures; and attendance in professional programs and/or seminars, workshops, or conferences.

Qualifications: 

Applicants must possess a license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of New York AND a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, appropriate certification, 16 CEU’s annually and the equivalent of three (3) years of full-time nursing experience in an oncology support setting; or a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, appropriate certification, 16 CEU’s annually and the equivalent of five (5) years of full-time nursing experience in an acute care support setting.

NOTE:
Required degrees must have been granted by an accredited college or university or one recognized by Roswell Park Cancer Institute as following acceptable educational practices.

The preferred candidate would have a Master's degree in nursing or be currently enrolled in a Master's program in Nursing or leadership. The preferred candidate would also have previous experience in a management/leadership role, have critical care experience, and a satisfactory time and attendance record.
