Holidays

The following holidays are observed annually at Roswell Park Cancer Institute:

  • New Year’s Day
  • Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
  • Lincoln’s Birthday (generally recognized as a floating holiday)
  • Washington’s Birthday (President’s Day)
  • Memorial Day
  • Independence Day
  • Labor Day
  • Columbus Day
  • Election Day (generally recognized as a floating holiday)
  • Veteran’s Day
  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Christmas Day

Floating holidays earned by employees must be used within 1 year of being credited.

Vacation Time

Full-time employees earn vacation in the amount of ½ day per bi-weekly pay period for a total of 13 days per year. Eligible part-time employees earn vacation at a prorated rate.

Full-time employees are awarded 1 day of bonus time, up to 7 days, for each year of employment equivalent to the number of years worked. Bonus days are prorated for eligible part-time employees. These bonus days are given on the anniversary date of employment. After 7 years of employment, full-time employees earn vacation in the amount of ¾ day per bi-weekly pay period. Eligible part-time employees will also earn these hours at a prorated rate.

Full-time employees may roll over up to 40 days of vacation as of each year. This roll over limit is prorated for eligible part-time employees. New employees may not use earned vacation time during their first 6 months of employment

Personal Leave

Full-time employees are credited with 5 days of personal leave on their first day of employment and on their anniversary date each year thereafter. Eligible part-time employees earn personal leave at a prorated rate. Employees are required to use personal leave within 1 year of being credited. Personal leave is intended to allow employees time for personal business and religious observances and may be used upon starting employment.

Sick Leave

Sick leave is intended to protect employees from loss of income due to illness or death in the family. Like vacation, full-time employees earn sick leave in the amount of ½ day per bi-weekly pay period for a total of 13 days per year. Eligible part-time employees earn sick leave at a prorated rate.

*Note: Sick leave is earned in the amount of 8 days per year (4 days in January and 4 days in July) for full-time, management/confidential employees of the Roswell Park Cancer Institute Corporation (RPCIC) only. Eligible part-time employees earn sick leave at a prorated rate.

Other Leaves

Leaves may also be granted for military reserve training, military duty, Family Sick Leave, jury duty, Family Medical Leave and educational opportunities.
