Description of Duties: 

The Smoking Cessation Associate's (SCA) duties include, but are not limited to: responding to incoming calls to the NYSSQ; providing motivating cessation coaching; screening for nicotine patch eligibility; providing resources and materials to smokers trying to quit; service calls from health professionals, educators and others using a variety of mechanisms and resources and locate appropriate materials and information in response to inquiries related to smoking cessation. This incumbent must have the ability to demonstrate a high-level of communication; active listening skills and empathy; effective problem solving skills; work with a range of diverse clients; excellent customer service, telephone and computer skills including MS Office and navigating database screens; be detail-orientated with the ability to follow through on tasks while working in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. The NYS Smokers' Quitline is open 7 days a week with the hours of Mon-Thurs. 8:30am-9pm and Fri.-Sun. 8:30am-5pm. For a description of the NYSSQ, please visit us at www.nyssmokefree.com

Qualifications: 

1.Associate’s degree in an appropriate field and the equivalent of one (1) year of full-time experience in a call center, customer service and/or healthcare related field; or
2.High School Diploma or G.E.D. and the equivalent of two (2) years of full-time experience a call center, customer service and/or healthcare related field.

NOTES:
1.Required degrees must have been granted by an accredited college or university or one recognized by Roswell Park Cancer Institute as following acceptable educational practices.
2.Must be a current non-smoker.

The preferred candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in a related field; customer service or human services background; counseling experience; familiarity with smoking cessation and/or tobacco control; have strong computers skills; a reliable work attendance record; flexibility with work schedule; be self-sufficient and high initiative to achieve team and individual goals.

$12.27 per hour. Includes a comprehensive benefits package
