Description of Duties: 

This Medical Interpreter (Project Coordinator) will provide accurate and complete interpretation services to ensure the delivery of culturally-competent care and facilitate access to hospital services for non-English- or limited-English-proficient patients. The incumbent will participate as a neutral party to relay information between patients, their families, staff and faculty, ensure that information pertaining to the patient's outpatient services and/or hospitalization (e.g. advance directives, consents for treatment, diagnosis and prognosis, treatment plan, follow-up appointments and health care education) are accurately communicated, translate documents accurately, completely and within necessary time frames, and provide interpreter services and convey the exact message as opposed to summarizing the information in a way that is subjective. This individual will also maintain accurate and timely documentation as required by policy, procedure or corporate compliance rules/regulations, maintain records of and provide accurate and timely attendance reports as required, promote customer satisfaction and notify the supervisor of any issues that may be problematic for patients or staff, and ensure that all policies and procedures related to the workplace are followed. Further duties will include maintaining confidentiality in all matters related to patients and visitors, using accurate and appropriate interpretation skills at all times, providing interpretation/translation services during business and non-business hours as assigned, and performing other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications: 

Applicants must possess a High School diploma or G.E.D., prior experience working with patients and clinicians in a healthcare setting requiring the use of medical terminology, and Certification as a Medical Interpreter.

NOTE: Required degrees must have been granted by an accredited college or university or one recognized by Roswell Park Cancer Institute as following acceptable educational practices.

The preferred candidate will have an Associate's degree, the ability to work with diverse populations from various economical and age groups, the ability to work effectively as a member of a clinical team, and the ability to work in a fast-paced healthcare environment with a variety of customer-service needs.

Hours/Shift: 
Per diem only (days and times as needed; availability Monday - Friday, 7:00am - 5:00pm)
Salary: 
$25.00 per hour.
