In December 2007, WCA Hospital, a regional healthcare provider, entered into an affiliation agreement with Roswell Park Cancer Institute (RPCI), the only National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center in Upstate New York. The WCA Hospital Radiation Oncology Facility will be operated in collaboration with RPCI.

Details of the affiliation include:

• An upgrade of the WCA Hospital Radiation Oncology Facility, including the purchase of state-of-the-art technology.
• A full-time, on-site radiation oncologist to work closely with RPCI faculty in planning treatments and to ensure the quality of treatment delivery at WCA.
• Consultative services by RPCI staff in such areas as radiation oncology, medical physics and dosimetry services.
• Electronic teleconferencing between WCA and RPCI cancer care specialists enabling the development of patient treatment plans.
• Collaborations to ensure the availability of radiation oncology services at WCA, such as stereotactic brain/body radiation, high-dose rate brachytherapy and image-guided radiation therapy, to treat all cancers that respond to radiation therapy, including prostate, breast, head and neck, lung, colorectal and brain tumors.
• Clinical protocols developed by RPCI to ensure that patients at WCA receive the same radiation medicine services as patients at RPCI.
