The radiation medicine service at CMC will be operated in conjunction with RPCI, and key aspects of the affiliation include:
- Significant consultative services by RPCI staff in such areas as facility planning, technology planning, clinical and staff support selection, and operations
- The provision of a full-time, on-site radiation oncologist by RPCI
- A full-time, on-site medical physicist to be provided by RPCI to work closely with the radiation oncologist in planning treatments and to ensure the quality of treatment delivery at CMC
- Clinical protocols developed by RPCI to ensure that patients at CMC receive the same radiation medicine services as patients at Roswell Park
- Electronic teleconferencing between CMC and RPCI cancer care specialists to facilitate the development of treatment plans for CMC patients
- The hiring by CMC of key clinical and support staff for the radiation medicine center

The Varian 21 EX IMRT Linear Accelerator
- Manufactured by Varian Medical Systems, the new linear accelerator is outfitted to deliver Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), as well as respiratory gating and portal imaging that helps to better focus the radiation treatments. The technology is considered to be state-of-the-art in the delivery of conformal radiation therapy.
- The technology enables radiation oncologists to adjust the intensity of radiation administered to patients
- Advanced hardware and software systems are designed to help ensure clinical accuracy and safety
- The technology will be used to treat all cancers that respond to radiation therapy, including prostate, breast, head and neck, lung, colorectal and brain tumors
