Description
The NMR Resource provides instrumentation and software for acquiring and processing nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) data for profiling of body fluids (‘metabonomics’) and characterization of bio-molecular structures. Two high-resolution NMR spectrometers (Brüker AMX-400 and Varian INOVA 600) operating at 400 and 600 MHz 1H resonance frequency are available. For pilot program development and specialized projects, NMR Resource personnel assist users. This may include support for metabolite identification based on the NMR metabolic profiles and computational prediction of bio-molecular structures. As a result of a collaboration with the RPCI Department of Information Technology, the operation of the NMR Resource relies largely on web-based protocols (e.g., for sign-up schedules).
NMR Resources
- Location
The NMR Facility is located on the first floor of the Medical Research Complex-North.
- Equipment at RPCI

Services
Investigators can request: one- and two-dimensional experiments, temperature-dependent experiments, relaxation experiments, and multi-nuclear detection (eg., hydrogen, carbon-13, fluorine-19, phosphorus-31, nitrogen-15) experiments. Although each of these spectrometers is capable of processing the digital NMR data, there are several independently functioning computer workstations with necessary software for processing all NMR data. All spectrometers and workstations are connected to the Roswell Park ethernet, so these data can be sent to any networked computer at Roswell Park for independent processing and printing, and/or plotting.
Investigators should submit a completed NMR Analysis Request Form and their solution sample (in an NMR tube) to Facility personnel to request the experiment required.
Scheduling and Billing Procedure
Investigators should contact Mr. Tabaczynski for scheduling information. Investigators are billed on a monthly basis for equipment use and services provided.
