Dr. Thom R. Loree joined the staff of Roswell Park Cancer Institute (RPCI) in 1993, as Attending Surgeon, Department of Head and Neck/Section of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Department of Surgery, and was appointed Chair of the Department of Head and Neck Surgery in 1999. He earned his medical degree at George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences, Washington, DC, in 1982. Between 1983 and 1990, Dr. Loree completed residency training in General Surgery and Plastic Surgery at St. Luke’s/Roosevelt Hospital Center, New York, NY. During his residency, he also completed a fellowship in Head & Neck Surgery & Oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, in New York, NY.
Dr. Loree is licensed by New York State and is certified by the the National Board of Medical Examiners (1983), American Board of Surgery (1988; Recertification, 1997), and American Board of Plastic Surgery (1995). He also is Attending Surgeon, General & Plastic Surgery, at Millard Fillmore Hospitals (Kaleida) and Sisters of Charity Hospital in Buffalo; and Associate Professor of Surgery at the University at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences.
Dr. Loree’s research interests focus on the genetic basis of thyroid cancer and disease and reconstructive and microvascular surgery.
Dr. Loree is a member of many professional organizations, including the American Medical Association, American Head & Neck Society, Eastern Great Lakes Head & Neck Association, New York Head & Neck Society, Buffalo Surgical Society, Buffalo Plastic Surgery Society, and American Society of Clinical Oncology. Currently, he is a member of the Executive Committee of the American Head & Neck Society, and serves on several committees at RPCI and the University at Buffalo.
Dr. Loree has authored or co-authored more than 60 journal publications, book chapters and abstracts, and lectures extensively in his specialty.
