Study Credits Smoke-Free Law for Fewer Heart Attacks
BUFFALO, NY (2007-10-02) A new study from the State Health Department says New York's Clean Indoor Air Act has contributed to a reduction in the number of heart attacks.
The state enacted its indoor smoking ban in 2003. A year later, there was an eight percent decline in hospital admissions for heart attacks. The study, which was co-authored by Dr. Andrew Hyland of the Roswell Park Cancer Institute, credits the Clean Indoor Air Act for the reduction.
Dr. Hyland joined us on the phone Monday to talk about the study. Click the "listen" icon above to hear Mark Scott's interview now or use your podcasting software to download it to your computer or iPod.
