Chemoprevention
Chemoprevention, under the direction of Clement Ip, PhD, focuses on ways that nutrition and/or chemical intervention may impact the development of cancer. This unique program brings together members with expertise in nutrition, epidemiology, chemoprevention and the development of molecularly targeted agents with the potential for prevention. Associations between dietary components and cancer risk observed in epidemiologic studies lay the foundation for intervention and chemoprevention trials, and provide leads for basic and translational research.
Key research topics include the relationship between diet and cancer, the use of selenium and vitamin D as anticancer compounds, the TRAMP model for understanding how cancer progresses and identifying biomarkers for early-stage identification and treatment of tumors.
