Small Cell Lung Cancer
Small Cell Lung Cancer (also known as “Oat Cell”)
Small cell arises from the cells responsible for making nerves and endocrine organs.
- Usually starts in the central portion of the chest and airways
- Usually has spread to other parts of the body when discovered, because it is aggressive and grows very quickly
- Generally treated by chemotherapy and/or radiation. Surgery may be an option in select cases but patient will still require chemotherapy
- 15-20% of lung cancer cases
- 60's age group
