Kidney Cancer
OverviewRoswell Park has assembled a multidisciplinary team of specialists with the expertise necessary to provide all the latest treatment options for kidney cancer. Our team can discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each therapy and help patients choose the option that best fits their treatment goals. IncidenceAccording to the American Cancer Society, over 54,000 cases of kidney cancer (including renal pelvis) will be diagnosed in the United States in 2008. TreatmentWith the widespread use of CT scans and ultrasounds, an increasing number of kidney tumors are incidentally detected during an evaluation for an unrelated complaint. As the incidence of kidney tumors has increased, so have the options for treatment. For tumors that are localized to the kidney the array of surgical options include open surgery, laparoscopic surgery, partial kidney removal and percutaneous surgery. Advances in surgical technique and technology have allowed for more minimally invasive surgical approaches. | Click photo to view a video about the Minimally Invasive Surgical Center at Roswell Park. |
