Breast Cancer
The Multidisciplinary Breast Cancer Center at Roswell Park, provides comprehensive, individualized care to patients with premalignant and malignant breast disease. Dissemination of information and resources, counseling and emotional support are essential components of this program. OverviewAt RPCI, a multidisciplinary team works to provide optimal care to breast cancer patients. Investigators in the hospital and in the laboratory explore how breast cancer develops, devise new methods to diagnose it in its earliest, most curable stages and collaborate on, develop and test new and innovative treatments for all stages of the disease. RPCI has taken a leadership role in the breast guideline development with the National Comprehensive Cancer Network and is involved in the National Surgical Adjuvant Breast and Bowel Project. RPCI also participates in most of the national trials (eg., the STAR study) to improve the prevention, detection, and treatment of breast cancers. To test your knowledge about breast cancer, please visit this American Cancer Society (ACS) Test Your Breast Cancer IQ quiz. (This link will open in a new browser window.) The ACS estimates over 184,000 new cases of breast cancer this year (2008). The National Cancer Institute, in conjunction with the National Surgical Adjuvant Breast and Bowel Project (NSABP), have created an online tool to estimate a woman's risk of developing invasive breast cancer. This tool can be accessed at this link, and should be used in addition to a consultation with your primary health care provider. |
