Patient Visitation
Patients are visited routinely by a chaplain or Pastoral Care visitor within a few days of admission regardless of religious affiliation. Specific denominational requests are channeled through the Pastoral Care Division. Surgical patients are visited by a member of the Pastoral Care team the day before or the morning of their procedure(s) to assess any post-surgical chaplain needs that the patient may have.
- Chaplains are available 24 hours a day to respond to requests. Additional Spiritual Care is provided from community resources directed by chaplaincy staff.
- Pastoral Care staff regularly attend multidisciplinary rounds on inpatient units.
- Chaplains are fully integrated with other clinical services including nursing, social work, psychology and patient representatives. Referrals are regularly made between those services and the chaplains.
- Chaplains provide pastoral counseling services to patients, family members and staff.
- Chaplains are responsible for providing or arranging for Sacraments and/or religious services as pertains to each individual denomination. When called upon, chaplains will provide services for the spiritual welfare of the hospital staff. The chaplains will provide in-services to staff for moral and spiritual support.
