Lucia Scarpino joined the staff of Roswell Park Cancer Institute (RPCI) in 1977, as staff nurse on the Colon Rectal Surgical Unit and became a Certified Wound Ostomy and Continence Nurse in 1981.

Ms. Scarpino earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing in 1977 and her Master of Science Degree in 1988 from [D’Youville College, Buffalo, NY. She completed Roswell Park Cancer Institute’s Enterostomal Therapy Nurse Education Program in 1981.

Ms. Scarpino is licensed by New York State and is certified by Wound Ostomy Continence Nurses Society.

Ms. Scarpino is a member of the Wound Ostomy Continence Nurses Society and the Oncology Nursing Society (ONS).

Ms. Scarpino has authored a book chapter on “Management of Dermatologic Problems,” in Pain: Pharmacological, Interventional, and Palliative Care Approaches and presented a poster on "Vacuum Assisted Wound Closure in an Oncology Setting" at the national ONS meeting in 2003.

She was also honored by her peers at Roswell Park as the 2007 Nurse of Distinction.
