Dr. Johnny Yap joined the faculty at Roswell Park Cancer Institute in 2005 and was appointed to the Department of Radiation Medicine. Dr. Yap came to the Institute from the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California. He completed his radiation oncology residency at Wayne State University, Detroit, Michigan (2000) after his medical internship at Yale University, New Haven, Connecticut (1996). He is board certified by the American Board of Radiology in Radiation Oncology (2000).
Dr. Yap’s clinical and research interests include the development of and participation in clinical trials in the cancers of gynecologic (uterine, cervix, ovarian), breast, sarcoma, lung, head and neck, skin, prostate, gastrointestinal, and other disease sites with special interest in brachytherapy and intensity modulated radiation treatment.
At the Institute, Dr. Yap offers specialized treatment options such as three-dimensional conformal radiation treatment, intensity modulated radiation treatment, image-guided radiation treatment, respiratory gated radiation treatment, high dose rate brachytherapy, and orthovoltage x-ray radiation treatment.
"Radiation treatment is often a necessary and an important component of the complex cancer care for many patients. My goal is to help my patients understand the treatment process and to provide them with personal and individualized care throughout their course of treatment and recovery."
Dr. Yap is an active member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology, American Brachytherapy Society, and the American College of Radiology. He has over 30 scientific abstracts and manuscripts presented and published.
