Dr. Chukwumere E. Nwogu joined the staff of Roswell Park Cancer Institute in 1999, as Attending Surgeon, Division of Thoracic Surgery, Department of Surgery. He also is Associate Professor of Surgery at the University at Buffalo School of Medicine & Biomedical Sciences.
He earned his medical degree from the College of Medicine at the University of Nigeria in 1987. Following residency training in General Surgery at Flushing Hospital-Albert Einstein College of Medicine, New York, NY (1995), and Thoracic Surgery at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center, Worcester (1998), Dr. Nwogu completed fellowship training in General Thoracic Surgery at Brigham and Women's Hospital/Harvard Medical School in Boston, MA (1999).
Dr. Nwogu is licensed by New York State and Massachusetts, and is certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery (1999).
His research interests focus on the lymphatic spread of lung and esophageal cancer; thoracoscopic and laparoscopic minimally-invasive esophageal and lung surgery.
He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of numerous professional organizations including, among others, the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, the General Thoracic Surgery Club, the American College of Surgeons Oncology Group, the American College of Chest Physicians and the Cancer and Leukemia Group B.
Dr Nwogu has authored or co-authored several journal publications and is the principal investigator on several Roswell Park Cancer Institute research protocols.
