Dr. Shashikant B. Lele joined the staff of Roswell Park Cancer Institute (RPCI) in 1998, as Chair of Gynecologic Oncology, Department of Surgery. He earned his medical degree at Grant Medical College, Bombay University, India, in 1965. He completed residency training in Gynecology & Obstetrics at J.J. Hospital, India, in 1967, and at Mt. Sinai Hospital, OH, in 1973, and fellowship training in Gynecologic Oncology at RPCI in 1976.
Dr. Lele is licensed by New York State and is certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (1976) and Gynecologic Oncology (1979). He is Clinical Professor of Gynecology and Obstetrics & Gynecology, University at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences.
Dr. Lele’s research interests focus on estrogen and progesterone receptors in gynecologic malignancies; CA125 and placental alkaline phosphatase in ovarian carcinoma; flow cytometry in endometrial carcinoma; and human papilloma virus and its association with dysplasia and cervical malignancy.
Dr. Lele is a member of many professional organizations, including, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, American Society of Clinical Oncologists, and Society of Gynecologic Oncologists. He currently serves on a number of committees at RPCI and the University at Buffalo.
Dr. Lele has authored or co-authored more than 50 journal publications, book chapters and abstracts. He is an Editorial Consultant for the journals Obstetrics and Gynecology and Gynecologic Oncology.
