Bonaccio, Ermelinda, MD
Director of Breast Imaging, Department of Radiology
Assistant Professor of Oncology, Roswell Park Cancer Institute
Clinical Assistant Professor of Radiology,
State University of New York
School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at Buffalo
Dr. Bonaccio joined Roswell Park after Fellowship in Breast Imaging at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, New York, and after Radiology Residency at the Cornell University Medical Center, New York. Her work plan at Roswell is completely clinical, but, nonetheless, she is happy to participate in imaging and interventional studies on protocol and research patients of all kinds.
Dr. Bonaccio’s Breast Imaging Center is comprehensive in technique and surgically-focused. In other words, the full range of imaging techniques is routinely used: digital mammography, computer-aided diagnosis, ultrasound, ultrasound-guided biopsies and drainages, stereotactic core biopsies, breast MRI, and MRI-guided biopsies. Furthermore, the service is aggressive in terms of tissue procurement: lesions defined at Roswell are biopsied promptly at Roswell.
The Breast Imaging Center is located adjacent to the Breast Clinic (Surgical and Medical), so that interaction with surgical and medical specialists is constant; integration of care is the watchword of Dr. Bonaccio’s service.
Dr. Bonaccio is sought after as a teacher and is author of the Breast Imaging chapter in the department’s book, Cost-Effective Diagnostic Imaging: The Clinicians’ Guide, fourth edition, Mosby/Elsevier, 2006.
