Dr. Ziya Bilen joined the staff of Roswell Park Cancer Institute (RPCI) in 2000, as Director of the Intensive Care Unit in the Department of Anesthesiology & Pain Medicine. He earned his medical degree from the University of Istanbul Faculty of Medicine, Turkey, in 1981. He completed residency training in Internal Medicine (1987) at the Nassau County Medical Center, State University at New York Upstate Clinical Campus at Binghamton, and clinical fellowships in Critical Care Medicine at Brookdale Hospital, Brooklyn, NY (1987), and at Albany Medical College, Albany, NY (1999). He also completed a research fellowship in Critical Care Medicine at Albany Medical College, Albany, NY (1990). Dr. Bilen comes to RPCI from Buffalo General Hospital, where he served as Attending Intensivist in the Surgical-Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit.
Dr. Bilen is licensed by New York State, New Jersey and Michigan and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine. He also is Assistant Professor of Clinical Anesthesiology, Department of Anesthesiology, School of Medicine & Biomedical Sciences, University at Buffalo.
Dr. Bilen’s research interests include the predictive value of daily T-tube tolerance for prolonged ventilation requirements.
Dr. Bilen is a member of the Society of Critical Care Medicine, the American Thoracic Society and the American College of Chest Physicians. Dr. Bilen has authored or co-authored 25 journal publications, book chapters and abstracts. He serves as a Reviewer for Critical Care Medicine.
